For those interested in highlighting but aren’t eager to spend a hefty price the local pharmacy should be the right place for you. However, there was a problem. Highlighters of a good standard (no glitter flecks and high pigmentation) couldn’t be found at our local pharmacies. For years I tried searching for the reliable ‘drugstore’ product recommendations given by beauty influencers. Sadly South Africa didn’t stock most of the brands and the ones they did stock didn’t have the product I was searching for. It wasn’t until this year that I noticed excellent products popping up in the stores.
The L.A. Girl Strobe Lite Strobing Powders were the first to catch my eye. They have a great shade range and are very pigmented.
Next was Maybelline’s Facestudio Master Strobing Liquid illuminating and Stick Illuminating Highlighter which are filled with pigment and is available in three shades. The liquid product is perfect to mix in or apply under your foundation for a natural glow.
I was extremely pleased to see that Wet n Wild stocked the Megaglo Highlighting Powders. These are frequently raved about in the cyber beauty community and are one of the cheapest highlighters in the US. The only disappointing part is that these highlighters don’t seem to be part of the permanent collections in South Africa.
Finally, the last product I was really impressed with was the Catrice Light Correcting Serum Primer. This product gives you a subtle glow and is perfect for everyday wear but unfortunately, it is also a limited edition product.
