For my Matric Formal, I had a specific image in mind of how I wanted to look. I surfed the posts on Pinterest looking for the ideal accessories that would match my dress and eventually I stumbled upon Forever 21’s American website. I vaguely remembered that a Forever 21 store had opened in The Mall of Africa and not soon after I was on my way to visit them. My whole experience with Forever 21 was almost perfect. I found the exact jewellery I had in mind along with a clutch bag that matched my shoes perfectly. I was impressed by basically all their fashion accessoriesRead More →

My mother has always been a Body Shop enthusiast and so logically I was bound to become one myself. Their Body Butters trigger a mild nostalgia of my mid-teen years. Similarly, their fragrant body washes instinctively bring a smile to my face once I catch a whiff of their scent. There’s not much to a moisturizer or body wash but The Body Shop makes something so simplistic an experience. I’ve always enjoyed entering their store at the possibility of falling in love with yet another one of their products. Throughout the years I’ve been gravitating to their Body Butters that are more beneficial than sweet-smelling.Read More →

To be fashionable is one thing but to be fashionable on a budget is another. The fact that my parents have mastered the art of bargain hunting really aids my chances of finding great deals. However, for those of you that aren’t so lucky here’s all the tips and tricks I’ve accumulated so far. Do your research Some of the best discount stores, in South Africa, are right under your nose – you just need to know where to look. Woodmead retail-park is the best place to find quality at a great price. Forever New has a store in Woodmead, where the clothes that don’t getRead More →

I’ve never really been a sandal kind of gal. It was always sneakers and socks. I foolishly put up with feeling uncomfortably hot in the summer months just because wearing anything else was unimaginable. This was until I discovered slip-on sandals – where have they been all my life? This wakeup call lead to finding killer style look-a-likes for sandals frequently worn by fashion enthusiasts and models alike. The other great thing is that they’re easily attainable and, if you choose right, will never go out of style. I was so impressed my Woolworths’s shoe selection this season that all of my top picks are from them.Read More →

For someone with naturally straight hair, it’s always been somewhat of a struggle getting my hair to hold a curl or maintain volume – until now. After I went swimming one day I let my hair air dry and put it in a low bun so that it was out of the way. When I finally let it down it was curly and to my amazement, it stayed curly. I realised that the chlorine in the pool must have been the culprit. I also realised that sea water has the same effect as a result of the high concentration of salt in the water. IRead More →

One thing I realised once we boarded in Cape Town was that it was windy – that, of course, is an understatement: it was extremely windy. This meant I had to rethink the hairstyles I wanted to do as most of them included wearing loose hair. Luckily, I’ve mastered a few braided hairstyles throughout the years and I’m glad I thought of doing braids as it was functional and still looked picture-ready. The braids that worked for me were alternatives to the boxer braid. I wanted to keep as much hair tucked out of my face as possible and thus the boxer braid was perfect.Read More →

Someone with dry skin is probably the first to jump on the face mask bandwaggon and get you to do the same. A hydrating face mask does wonders to replenish a dehydrated skin – from my experience anyway. I’ve heard countless YouTubers note the importance of using a hydrating mask before or during flights as the air in an aeroplane is recycled and thus very drying to the skin. Individuals with dry skin have especially been known to break out after long flights. Keeping this in mind I decided to try out a face mask before my trip to Cape Town. I headed out to ClicksRead More →

Step 4: the makeup This seems to be the largest problem area when it comes to these events. No-one really knows anything about makeup and so everyone ends up looking rather strange. Most people get makeup artists to do their makeup for them but personally, I think some of the makeup artists in South Africa don’t really know how to make you look like a better version of yourself – they end up making you look much older than you are. Mac cosmetics is a safe option to have your makeup done at but always go for a test run first and see how theRead More →
